On his Discharge documentation it is stated he joined the 89th Regiment of Foot on 21st of January 1839 at the tender age of 14 years 4 months and was ultimately discharged 12th July 1964 after more than 21 years of service, including in locations such as West Indies, North America, Gibraltar, Crimea, Cape of Good Hope and India.
Service file indicates James Haw was born 1924/5 in Ardtree. Stewartstown, Tyrone and that his attestation for joining the 89th Regt. was performed in Trinidad, West Indies.
James died while as Pay Master Clerk 1st Royal Cheshire Militia. Will was probated 20 December 1867 in favour of wife Caroline
